Brief introduction of Tunisia

The Republic of Tunisia, which inherited its name from its capital, is the northernmost country in the African continent with a population of 11 million Arab-speaking Muslims, bordering Algeria, Libya and the Mediterranean Sea. Many industries play a role in Tunisia’s economy, among which agriculture, mining, natural resources, tourism, and the oil industry can be mentioned as the most important active industries in this country. In addition, Tunisia is considered as a producer of products such as chemicals, fabric, electricity and cement.

According to the report of the Iran and Africa Business Club from the International Trade Center, Tunisia’s total trade in 2021 was 54 billion and 800 million dollars, and the share of goods exports from this country was more than 16 billion dollars, of which electrical equipment, clothing and fuel respectively. Most of the products are exported from Tunisia. In addition, the most exports of this country have been made to France, Italy and Germany, respectively. Also, the export of technical engineering services from Tunisia in 2020 was more than 2 billion dollars.

According to this report, the total value of imported goods to Tunisia in 2021 has reached 22 billion dollars, the first 5 items of the country’s import list are fuel and oil products, electrical machinery and equipment, mechanical machinery, plastic and vehicles. And the first 5 countries supplying products to Tunisia were Italy, France, China, Germany and Turkey respectively. Also, the value of technical engineering services imported to Tunisia in 2020 was 2 billion and 300 million dollars.

According to the customs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the amount of Iran’s exports to Tunisia in 2021 was 1 million and 600 thousand dollars, which includes mechanical parts and raisins. And in the same year, nearly 500 thousand dollars of sodium phosphate was imported from Tunisia to Iran, which is the total trade this brings the two countries to more than 2 million dollars in 2021.
