Djibouti

The Republic of Djibouti is a country of one million people in the Horn of Africa and at the entrance of the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, where most of its residents are Muslims, and although Arabic and French are their official languages, they still speak their local languages. Before 1977, this country was considered part of French colonies. Djibouti has easy access to international waters and is also geographically connected with countries in the center of the continent, which has created a strategic position for this country. To the extent that various countries such as America, Japan and France have taken measures to use the strategic position of this country. China established its only foreign military base in Djibouti in 2017.

Industry and agriculture are not booming in this country, instead, Djibouti has based its economy on providing commercial services to the rest of the countries, and the transit of cargo from the Gulf of Aden is the source of people’s income.

According to the International Trade Center, the total trade of Djibouti in 2021 was 7 billion and 400 thousand dollars, the share of exports of goods from this country in 2021 was 370 million dollars, and the export of plant and animal products was 185 million dollars in 2021. Djibouti is the top export product.

According to the statistical report of the same center, the total value of imported goods destined for Djibouti in 2021 was 5 billion and 500 million dollars, and vegetable and animal products and oils, vehicles and food are the top in the list of imported goods of Djibouti.

The total export of services from Djibouti in 2020 was more than 1 billion dollars and the import of services was 625 million dollars in the same year.

According to the customs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iran’s total exports to Djibouti in 2021 reached the amount of 4 million dollars, of which 38% of the export share was oil bitumen, 40% belonged to sodium hydroxide. Also, in 3 years, the value of goods imported from Djibouti was zero or below 100 thousand dollars.
